Erroneous CA FTB Penalty Notices

Dear Client,
We want to inform you that the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) has been erroneously sending balance due and penalty notices to taxpayers in San Diego County. These notices are being sent despite whether the taxpayer qualified for the San Diego disaster relief, which postponed various filing and payment deadlines that would normally be due on or after January 21, 2024 to June 17, 2024. This relief would typically apply to 2023 balances due and first quarter 2024 estimate tax payments.
The FTB has acknowledged that these notices were issued due to system processing issues.
If you receive such a notice from the FTB, please forward it to our office as soon as possible. We will follow up to ensure the San Diego disaster relief is correctly applied to your account.
